Today I'm celebrating... Red, White, and You! I hope you get a little freedom on the "4th of July" to pursue some non-parenting passions.
As I celebrate Independence Day (United States) in my country, I think about freedom from the perspective of a parent. Buddha uttered "anata", which means "no self". Similarly, Jesus said "Deny thyself" (Matthew 16: 24). Some of the most famous spiritual guides advocated for a denial of one's self. When you become a parent you... Continue Reading →
You may wonder why each Stay-in-Bed Mom Blog (SIBMB) post ends with a "A Final Thought - From the Pillow". I grew up watching The Jerry Springer Show with my gram during lazy summer afternoons and holiday breaks from school hahah. I'd sit in a child's pose at the end of Mygram's bed and wait for... Thank you for joining Stay-in-Bed Mom Blog (SIBMB) for an ongoing positive self-talk series. Self-love starts with positive self-talk. We'll continue to discuss cognitive distortions, or unhelpful thinking styles, through the lens of parenthood. A little cognitive distortion here, a little exaggeration there isn't going to affect your mental state in the short term. However,... Continue Reading →
Where's Mom? I want Mom. Go ask your mother. It's tough coming in second to mom. But as American Evangelist Billy Graham once said, "A good father is one of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society." Let's sing, praise, and notice all of the dads,... Continue Reading →
In honor of Father’s Day, I’m reblogging this post on fantastic fathers in the Animal Kingdom. I’d love to hear how your own dad or your child(ren)’s dad is king!
Dads aren’t babysitters. Dads aren’t wageworkers. I’m guilty at times of treating my husband like an hourly babysitter. I (we) need to stop doing this. We’re not being fair to our husband/partner/child’s parent, etc.

I may not have biology or zoology credentials, only a zoo membership card, but as a mother of two young children, I’ve logged an impressive number of observation hours during my family’s “field visits” to our local zoo. Here are a few rockstar dads I discovered while visiting the zoo and browsing the Internet. For every “deadbeat”…

Your kids will be okay. I promise. So get your body "in bed" ASAP. What does it mean to "stay in bed"? Not taking parenting so seriously. Play. Don't perform. Try to not put so much emphasis on averages, percentiles, milestones, rankings. I know, it's hard. But parenting is not a competition...it's not. Ever...Your child... Continue Reading →
